Dear colleagues, 

Following a forgettable 2020, I am delighted to welcome to you to the BMLA 2021 Virtual Conference & Educational Courses in association with ELA on 6th – 7th May 2021. 

The BMLA Conference is a unique platform for the exchange of knowledge, ideas, recent advances, and everything else in the field of lasers and light-based devices for all medics, surgeons, nurses, technicians, aestheticians and scientists who are directly or indirectly involved in the use of such devices for improving their patients’ and clients’ health and wellbeing. Whilst it is always a challenge to cater to such a diverse group of candidates, the BMLA has been accepting this challenge year on year and delivering high quality, evidence based, scientific programmes to stimulate the minds of medical and aesthetic laser enthusiasts. We don’t see the virtual conference this year being any different in that respect. 

Like always, we will start our conference with laser core of knowledge and skin courses. These courses are highly subscribed and the demand for spaces has grown year on year. Feedback for all courses has consistently been very high. 

We will then launch our Masterclasses followed by the BMLA conference sessions which will include skin laser treatments, photodynamic therapy and use of lasers in surgery and dentistry. 

The BMLA prides itself on being inclusive and we will continue to have a dedicated ‘nurses and therapists’ session’ which has been so popular in the last few years. 

In the year that we formally leave the European Union and despite all the political noise, quite remarkably the European Laser Association has joined the BMLA in hosting the conference so that the educational opportunities for our members and our relationship with our European counterparts continue to flourish. 

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to rage, the rollout of vaccines provides a very optimistic start to the new decade. Until such time the majority of the population is vaccinated however, it is not possible to organise an educational event, such as the BMLA Conference, in the traditional format. I firmly believe that the virtual platform offers unique opportunities and may shape the future of educational events. With this in view, despite currently being under national lockdown, I look forward to the future with hope and in positive light (and lasers!) and welcome you all to the BMLA 2021 Virtual Conference in association with ELA. Despite all the odds, the show must go on…

The BMLA is the foremost society for medical lasers in the UK. We represent dermatologists, plastic surgeons, nurses, technologists, scientists, beauty therapists, manufacturers and safety advisers. In fact, we represent anybody who has an interest in the application of lasers or energy-based devices in medicine and aesthetics.
