Delegate profile and the WMS
Members of the World Muscle Society from all around the world make up around half of the WMS Congress audience. Members are professionals actively working in the neuromuscular field, studying neuromuscular disorders, or involved in the management of patients with these disorders. The remaining audience is made up of non-WMS member professionals working in the field of neuromuscular disorders.
Our first hybrid event took place in 2022 in Halifax, Canada, and we were pleased with the outcome. We continued with a hybrid format for 2023 in Charleston, USA, and for 2024 in Prague, Czechia.
Main aims of the WMS are:
- To provide continual learning, education, and guidance to the next generation of neuromuscular healthcare professionals through training, mentoring, championing, coaching, and leading
- To drive scientific discoveries and innovation; making decisions based on scientific evidence rather than opinion or instinct
- To be a welcoming and supportive multidisciplinary community, learning from one another and working together towards our shared aims
- To improve access for colleagues to cutting-edge neuromuscular knowledge and educational events
- To promote our values: Educational, Scientific, Collaborative, and Inclusive
“Attending WMS2024 for the first time has been an incredible experience for my professional development. Presenting my poster at this prestigious conference gave me the opportunity to share my research with a diverse audience, including some of the most respected scientists and fellow early-career professionals from around the world. Engaging in discussions about my work allowed me to receive constructive feedback and insights that I hadn't considered before.
Meeting and networking with experts in the field was truly inspiring. Hearing about their journeys, challenges, and successes made me realize the potential for growth in my own career. I found it especially valuable to connect with other early-career researchers; sharing experiences and ideas has already sparked some thoughts about future collaborations.
Overall, WMS 2024 has not only deepened my understanding of the latest advancements in muscle science but also opened doors to meaningful connections that I believe will play a crucial role in shaping my path forward in this field.”
